Purpose of Meeting: 


The topic will be on: "Research in the Bioengineering and Telemedicine Center – GBT of the UPM, Spain” by Dr. Alexis Marcano


In this seminar will be discussed on Medical Data Analysis and Knowledge Engineering, how this line of research helping or serve of the support of other lines of research in the Biomedical Engineering and Telemedicine Centre (GBT). In the first part of the seminar there will be a short introduction about, Madrd-Spain, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), the GBT and our lines of research.

The second part of the seminar will present in detail how Medical data Analysis and Knowledge Engineering help to serve as support for other lines of investigation: Telemediciine, Neuorehabiltaiion Engeneering, Artificial Pancreas a Medical image simulation, planning and image guided surgery. In each case there will be an explanation which will show the importance of this line of in the products developed and the papers published in journals. Also will be discussed about the future work within these areas of work. For finish will be discussed about a new subline, Big data applied to prediction of epidemics after tragedies (eartquakes, hurricanses, tsunamis, etc) associated towards the Medical Data Analysis and Knowledge Engineering


Dr. Alexis biography:

Alexis Marcano Cedeño was born in Bolivar city, Venezuela. He received the degree of B.Sc. in Computer Science by Central University of Venezuela (UCV), in 1995. He received the Master degree information Systems in Andres Bello Catholic University in 1998. In 2000 he is an assistant professor in the Experimental Pedagogical University Liberator (UPEL). In 2006 he achieved Master degree in Communication Systems and Networks by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). He achieved the Ph.D. degree in 2010 with a thesis on Breast Cancer Classification Applying Artificial Metaplasticity Algorithm. Currently he is Senior Researcher in the Bioengineering and Telemedicine Center – GBT of the UPM. His research interests include Artificial neural networks, Genetic algorithm, Swarm intelligence, Pattern classification, Image processing and Data mining, Medical data analysis and Bioinformatics system.
